I have lasercut Baltimore Cruiser Kits for sale. This kit will build a Baltimore class or Oregon City class heavy cruiser hull. The Baltimore was originally built to Treaty rules, but it is also legal in several other formats. The kit includes 24 ribs, a 1/4” sub-deck, a 1/8” bottom deck and the required keels. The overall length is 56”. There is 1 7/8” of hard area in the bow, and 1” of hard area in the stern. There are 22 1/4” ribs spaced at least 2” apart (2.25” center-to-center) Overall hard area is 8.375”, for a 14.95% fill. The sub-deck thickness is 1/4”, with an expectation that the builder will add a 1/8” deck for a total deck thickness of 3/8”. The windows for the vulnerable area are already defined, based on an 11lb displacement, eliminating the need to make rib calculations. The bottom of the vulnerable window is set at 1” below the waterline (assuming at least 11 pounds displacement) and at the 45 degree turn of the bilge where there is less than one inch available. The rudder area is 3.0 sqin, about 12.5% greater than scale. The builder will need to supply a 1/8” balsa sheeting for the bottom, a 1/8” plywood top deck, superstructure, and all controls and armament. Check out the manual and plans for more information. Build Instructions Superstructure Plans The kit is available for $75, plus $15 for shipping in the continental US. Please email me if you have any questions. mail(at)jenkse.us
This kit is very well done. And I highly recommend it for anyone that is interested in getting started in the hobby, as a lot of the guess work has been taken out of building your first boat. The instruction manual is also well done, and even Phil was able to put one together. Admittedly.. He did glue himself to the boat a few times. It would also make a nice addition to the fleet of those veterans that are looking to grow the hobby in their area. Mikey
I do love my Baltimore hull made from this kit! It's wonderful! The instructions and superstructure templates are fantastic, and a real time saver! Thanks, Carl
hey Mark, the weekend, Mikey had gone over to Bobo, I thing i saw one of the kits, Can you tell me more about them??? I'm trying to find a boat for my mom and dad, something easy they can both use!!! Nikki
The best thing to do is check out the instruction manual that I have hyperlinked in the first post. It has a lot of information on the construction as well as pictures. If you have questions after you have reviewed that, feel free to email me. You can also check out my website http://www.jenkse.us/rcengr. Of course, I need to update it and it really doesn't have much more information than the manual.
good job on what looks like another very nice kit. i just got my Bogue CVE kit in the mail today and the quality and workmanship is awesome, i would definatly buy more kits from you
I have to say that this looks like an awesome kit.... well thought out and planned, all the difficult work is already done. Looks spectacular..... planning any more??
I just finished a kit for the French pre-Dreadnaught Henry IV, you can see details under the Ship Comparison topic. The Bogue CVE is also available along with a plain C3 merchant hull. I need to post information in this thread on that one. There are also rumors of a classified Axis project in the works - it's a class , 6 ' LOA, ' beam, 0 displacement, knots and unit ship that will look great on the water.
I'm not aware of anyone that markets the Baltimore main turrets. They are reasonably simple and outlines are included on the plans. You can get the secondary twin 5" DP turrets from several places, such as Strike Models or Battler's Connection.
There is a photo of the 1/96 scale ship in this thread: http://rcnavalcombat.com/Forum/tabi...fault.aspx posted on October 1st.
Buddy is right the Des Moines turrets are to big. The turret for the Baltimore is the same as the Wichita.
