Hello all, I arrived at the dockyard today and found my package from Strike Models sitting on the porch. I brought it in the garage. Opening would have to wait. I had a ride tonight with a 4 time Tour de France rider. We hit the 26 miles hard, very hard. While coming up from Long Level, a road that climbs up from the river for 1 3/4 miles Eric asked what my hurry was? I didn't understand? He said "your average speed up the hill is just under 13 mph." He did not know I had motivation sitting in the garage. Well, We pounded the 26 mile ride in 1 hr 21min 12 seconds. We talked a while and went over what he would like to see me work on before our next ride Friday. Anywho, lots of time spent training for races. Enough of that. Ah yes, Strike Models Derfflinger. I ordered the Derfflinger hull because I wanted to get out from under the 6.5 units of the Bismarck. Bismarck is Fun but, it is a little more work than what I want at this time. The hull was packaged with care. Turret covers and plans were found inside the hull. By the way, the order went out 2 days after I placed it. I think the only reason for the 2 days was that FedEx does not pick up on Saturday. Outstanding service. Turret covers are very nice as are the plans. The hull is outstanding. White gel coat outside with the pinkish glass color on the inside. This is just like my Agano hull that I won at the Treaty Conference. The hull is nice, 1/8" thick with the thickness being uniform. Hull lines are great. Ken Kelly did an outstanding job on the plug years ago. The hull sides do have a slight tumblehome to them. I was very pleased to see that. A small bit of flashing will need to be cleaned up at the seam along with a little sanding to the top of the hull edge. This is the norm for every fiberglass hull that I have ever purchased. Nothing to be alarmed about. I am very, very happy with the order and I will be back. Thanks to Stephen and Keri for all their help' I plan to build the Derfflinger for use in the IRCWCC, MWC and Treaty. It should make a great foundation for a nice model. I've seen 3 hulls in recent weeks from Strike Models. The Agano, Arizona and Derfflinger. They are all keepers and I would recommend to everyone looking for R/C Combat supplies to check Strike Models out. I started a thread on RCN and the Treaty Yahoo site to document the progress on my build. I hope it will be of some help. Boober Uberpooperscooper Here is their link. http://www.strikemodels.com/
Took some pictures of the Derfflinger hull today. I was watching some video on YouTube and started looking at Derfflinger vs Kongo. While the Kongo has side by side rudders and the Derfflinger has 2 in-line rudders, the Derfflinger is several inches shorter. This combined with the shape of the Derfflinger bow near may allow the Derfflinger to perform as well as the Kongo's. The ease of sheeting will be a real advantage. The uper aft turret is almost in the same location as the Kongo Class. The turret was moved forward because of the engine room location. Watching Tyler's Derfflinger makes one want to give it a try. Here are the hull and turret pictures. The blue tape was used to even out the cap rail. Feel free to ask any questions you may have about the ship. Thanks to Strike Models for making the hull available.
Hey Bob, The BC Derfflinger turrets would look mighty fine on you SMS Lutzow. I have em on my Derffilnger. Do you have any new pics? Todd
Look at his medal! He's got the Knights Cross w/Ponies and Hearts! Nice looking hull, though. I'm looking forward to getting a Bayern from Strike.
No new pictures. I have not touched any of the boats in a while now. Busy with other things. Living Histories, biking, knee injury.....
Bob, go out there and touch the hulls. They miss you, and it'll be good for you TOUCH THEM!!! Dare I suggest... work on them a little? I've always found doing a little something to the ships to be helpful to my mental state
