Just a bit of a tease here so far..... after running the D for a while, and wanting another (my son loves running it, seems to be a really good beginner ship), it seems like it may be a good idea to convert the kit to a 3d printed variant. image below is a test print to verify some critical internal geometric constraints, as the plan is for large print parts at about 9 inches in length for each segment (give or take a bit), so 4 major print jobs for the hull itself at about 24 hours each...

Dry fit EVERYTHING first. Make sure you know which side of the holes the brass threaded inserts belong on. They must be installed prior to assembling the hull.

check fits, if it seems too tight, sand it slightly until it is not. Tolerances on wood thickness are not very good,...

It's a huge mess of laser-cut wood, 3d-printed plastic, and assorted other bits, but eventually this will become a pair of mighty predreadnought battleships. Since nobody else has been documenting their builds, I figured I should record mine. I'm still in the middle of assembling the two hulls, so it'll be a little bit before I get to post any...

This applies to both the shielded and unshielded mounts
These 8.8s are designed for a 1/16" OD barrel. However, you can use a section of provided filament for the barrel. To do this you will have to either drill out the barrel location with a larger diameter bit or use a drill to drive your piece of filament in. Pictures that follow depict this process.

The casemates and Sponsons (and barbettes) included in your kits, whether white or orange, are made of a material called PC+PBT. It is tough stuff, but the nature of 3d printing (layer by layer with interior hollows) can still leave the resultant structures with suboptimal strength.
Because of this I highly recommend the careful application of a butane torch or heat gun to heat the outer faces of these pieces. You are trying to get them very hot, but not ignite or deform them, so keep the...
